What are the competitions that are held?
There are five branches of competition that are competed, namely:
- Speech
- Storytelling
- News Casting
- Debate
- Scrabble
Will all competitions be conducted online?
- Speech, Storytelling, and News Casting branches will be held online at the preliminary stage.
The ten best participants from each branch will advance to the Final Round which will be held offline at Politeknik Negeri Lampung.
- The Debate branch will be held entirely online, starting from the preliminary to the final round.
- The Scrabble branch will be held entirely offline at Politeknik Negeri Lampung.
Who can participate in this competition?
This competition is open to two categories of participants:
- High school students from all over Indonesia (Senior High School/SHS category)
- Active students (D3 / D4 / S1) from all universities in Indonesia (Varsity category)
Are participants allowed to participate in more than one branch of the competition?
Yes, participants are allowed to participate in more than one competition as long as the schedules do not conflict. Participants are responsible for ensuring their readiness and attendance at each competition they participate in.
Is there a limit to the number of participants from one school or university?
Yes, each institution is allowed to send a maximum of 4 participants or teams for each branchof the competition.
Is there a registration fee for participating in the competition?
Yes, there is a registration fee for each branch of the competition. Information regarding theamount of fees will be announced through the official guidebook and committee information channel.
When and where will the competition be held?
- The preliminary stage (online) will be held through the Zoom platform or through video submission in accordance with the provisions of each branch.
- The final stage (offline) will be held at Politeknik Negeri Lampung.
The complete schedule will be announced through the official website and social media of the committee.
Will finalists who participate in the offline stage be facilitated with transportation and accommodation?
Please refer to the official guidebook or contact the committee to obtain further information regarding transportation and accommodation facilities for finalist participants.
What is the procedure if the participants qualify for the final round?
Finalists will be contacted by the committee through the official WhatsApp group. Finalists are required to attend the entire series of activities in the Final Round which is held offline at Politeknik Negeri Lampung.
Does the speech have to be delivered in English?
Yes. All participants must deliver speeches in English without exception.
Are participants allowed to use notes when performing?
Participants are allowed to use notes, but please note that the use of notes may affect the assessment, especially on the aspects of mastery of material and confidence.
Is there a limit to the duration of the speech?
- Preliminary Round: 5 to 7 minutes
- Final Round: 4 to 6 minutes
Speeches delivered less than or exceeding the specified time limit will be subject to point deduction.
Who determines the speech topic?
The topic is determined by the organizers according to the general theme of the competition. Participants will choose a speech topic from a list provided by the committee.
Are expressions and gestures also assessed?
Yes. The assessment covers various aspects, including:
- Content quality
- Pronunciation and enunciation
- Intonation
- Facial expression
- Body language (gestures)
Does the quality of the video shoot affect the assessment?
No, it does not. Judging is based solely on the criteria listed in the official guidebook. However, participants must follow the technical requirements of video shooting, including the specified resolution and format, so that the video can be properly assessed by the judges.
Is there a specific theme that must be presented?
Yes. The storytelling theme will be determined by the committee and announced through the official guidebook. Participants are required to present a story in accordance with the theme that has been determined.
Are participants allowed to use costumes or props?
Yes, participants are allowed and encouraged to use costumes or props that can improve the quality of the performance. However, their use should not interfere with the duration of the performance or limit movement in the performance area.
Are participants allowed to read the script while performing?
Not allowed. The assessment in the storytelling branch includes expression, articulation, and flexibility in telling stories. Therefore, carrying or reading a script during the performance is not allowed.
Is the performance conducted live or via video?
- The preliminary round is conducted online with a video recording format. Videos are submitted through uploads on the participant's personal YouTube channel, in accordance with the technical instructions from the committee.
- Participants who qualify for the finals will perform live (offline) in the Final Round held at Politeknik Negeri Lampung.
Is the news script provided by the committee?
Yes. The committee will provide a script or news headline a few minutes before theperformance. Participants must bring the news that has been determined by the committee
Are participants allowed to use properties such as microphones, blazers, and the like?
Yes, they are allowed. Professional appearance is highly recommended, including the use of blazers, microphones, and neutral backgrounds or studio-like settings that support a formal and credible impression as a news anchor.
Will participants perform in person or submit a video recording?
- The preliminary stage is held online, where participants submit a performance video according to the instructions from the committee.
- Selected finalists will perform live (offline) at the Final Round at Politeknik Negeri Lampung.
In which language must the news be presented?
News Casting must be performed in English.
What are the aspects assessed in the News Casting competition?
The assessment includes:
- Articulation and pronunciation
- Facial expression and mimicry
- Intonation and voice dynamics
- Fluency and mastery of news content
- Overall visual appearance
What is the format of this year's News Casting competition?
The competition is conducted in two stages:
- Preliminary Round (Online): Participants submit video performances according to technical requirements.
- Final Round (Offline): Finalists will perform live at Politeknik Negeri Lampung.
Are participants allowed to edit the video or add visual effects?
Not allowed. Videos must be recorded in one-take without editing, transitions, or additional effects. Violation of this provision may result in disqualification.
Is the Scrabble competition conducted online or offline?
The Scrabble competition is held entirely offline on the campus of Politeknik Negeri Lampung (Polinela).
Is the Scrabble competition individual or team?
The Scrabble competition is held individually (1 vs 1), where one participant will compete directly against one other participant in each round.
What edition of dictionary is used in this Scrabble competition?
The competition references the 2024 edition of Collins Scrabble Words (CSW) as the official dictionary.
Are participants allowed to look at the dictionary during the competition?
Not allowed. During the competition, participants are prohibited from using dictionaries in any form, including physical dictionaries, digital dictionaries, or applications such as Word Expert on smartphones.
If such violation is found, the action will be considered as cheating and the participant may be disqualified by the judges.
What application is used for match timing?
Before the competition starts, participants are required to download and install the "Wali Timer" application or a recommended similar application, which will be used to set the match time for each round.
Who is in charge of counting points during the match?
During the match, each participant is required to count their own points as well as their opponent's points.
This aims to minimize score calculation errors at the end of the match and maintain transparency of match results.
What is the debate format used in this competition?
The debate format used is Asian Parliamentary (AP), which consists of two teams (Government and Opposition), each with three members.
Are all stages of the debate competition conducted online?
Yes. All stages of the competition, including the final round, will be fully conducted online through a platform determined by the committee.
Will debate motions be given in advance or impromptu?
Motions will be given impromptu, which is about 15 minutes before the debate session starts.
Are participants allowed to use notes during the debate?
Participants are allowed to bring personal notes, but are not allowed to read the full script during the debate.
How is the pairing and scoring system in this debate competition?
- Pairing is done using a software-based tournament tabulation system commonly used in debate competitions.
- The assessment includes three main aspects:
• Quality of argumentation
• Delivery style
• Team strategy
Who can register as a debate participant?
Participants must be active Diploma (D3/D4) or Bachelor (S1) students from universities in Indonesia.
How is the Asian Parliamentary debate system technically run?
- Two teams (Government and Opposition) will compete in one online debate session.
- Each main speaker will deliver a 7-minute substantive speech.
- Further technical information, including the role of each speaker (Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition, etc.), will be explained in detail at the Technical Meeting session.
Are POIs (Point of Information) allowed during the debate?
Yes. POIs are allowed and can be raised between the first minute to the sixth minute of each substantive speech.
Are participants allowed to use devices or the internet during casebuilding and debate?
Not allowed. Participants are not allowed to use additional devices or access the internet during the casebuilding or debate sessions, to maintain the fairness of the competition.
Can participants turn off the camera (off-cam) or microphone (off-mic) during the competition?
- Participants are required to turn on the camera (on-cam) while in the debate room.
- The microphone (mic) should only be activated when participants are allowed to speak, such as when presenting arguments or giving/answering POIs.
- Participants are prohibited from disrupting the match, either technically or verbally.
